If your account goes into a negative balance, you have a seven day grace period to bring it back to positive. If you don't sort it out within that window, your policy will be canceled and you won't be covered.
What "sorting it out" looks like depends on how you're billed. If you're on pay-per-mile with automatic top-up, you'll need to add money to your account to cover what you owe and bring your balance back above zero. If you're on Scheduled Pay, you don't have a running balance to top up. Instead, you'll need to pay the outstanding bill, or make sure your payment method on file is valid so we can charge it automatically.
The best way to avoid this altogether is to keep a valid payment method on your account. That way, whether you're on automatic top-up or Scheduled Pay, your payments go through without you having to think about it.
Please note that we have to report who has and who doesn't have car insurance to the Department of Transport.
