How you switch depends on which direction you are going. Moving from unlimited miles to pay-per-mile means cancelling your current policy and buying a new one. Moving from pay-per-mile to unlimited miles is often quicker: most customers can switch straight from the Just Insure app, with no cancellation needed. Below are detailed instructions for both.
Steps to switch from Unlimited to Pay-per-mile
Cancel your current policy: Contact Just Insure to cancel your unlimited-miles policy. This step is necessary to move to a new plan.
Check your account before cancelling: Check your account balance, and make sure you will not need to drive before your new policy is active. Line up your new policy to start right after the old one ends, so your coverage does not lapse.
Purchase a new policy: Start a new policy application and select the pay-per-mile option. You will need to make a payment to activate the new policy.
Steps to Switch from Pay-per-mile to Unlimited
Most pay-per-mile customers do not need to cancel anything for this switch. Check the app first.
Option 1: Switch in the app (recommended)
Look for an upgrade offer: Open the Just Insure app and check your dashboard for a "Switch to Unlimited" prompt. If you are eligible, we will show you how much you would save on Just Unlimited.
Review and accept your quote: Confirm the details and accept the offer.
You are switched: Your policy moves over to Just Unlimited right away and we will email you your updated documents. Your pay-per-mile policy is not cancelled, it is upgraded in place, so there is no gap in coverage and no final odometer photo needed.
Option 2: Cancel and repurchase (if you do not see an in-app offer)
Not every Pay-per-mile customer is offered the in-app switch. If you do not see the option above, you can still switch this way:
Cancel your current policy: Contact Just Insure to cancel your pay-per-mile policy.
Submit a final odometer photo: After cancelling, submit a final odometer photo so we can work out your last mileage usage and finalize your account. Our Policy Services team will review the photo before you repurchase.
Purchase a new policy: Open the Just Insure app or website and start a new policy application. Select the Unlimited Mileage plan and complete the remaining steps.
Important considerations
Continuous coverage: If you are cancelling and repurchasing, line up your new policy to start right after your old one ends so your coverage does not lapse. This does not apply if you switch through the in-app upgrade, since your policy is never cancelled.
Refunds: If you cancel a policy, you may get a refund for unused coverage.
Payment requirements: Be ready to make a payment when you purchase a new policy. An in-app switch may adjust your existing payment schedule instead of charging you separately.
